Our client is a successful Toronto based Family Law firm.
Role Overview
The Financial Controller is responsible for the financial wellbeing of the Firm with a key emphasis on managing dockets, billings, collections, and expenses management. This role has direct accountability for ensuring accurate financial reporting and managing cash flow projections. Along with the support of 2 direct reports, responsibilities would include but not be limited to:
Responsibilities:
- Provide accurate financial reports, including cash flow reports and monthly projections
- Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations for trust and general accounts, and monthly credit card reconciliations
- Manage tax compliance, including corporate tax installments, Professional Corporation income taxes, HST and EHT returns
- Oversee financial transactions, including trust, outgoing wire, and electronic fund transfers ensuring compliance
- Implement and monitor financial strategies as assigned
- Monitor accounts receivables, review receivable reports with lawyers and update status
- Oversee and support billing and write-off procedures and policies
- Process payroll for the firm and ensure compliance with salary remittances for Professional Corporations
- Oversee corporate and employee compensation-related tax filings and payments
- Calculate and process Partner Compensation
- Oversee the firms overall billing to receivable process
Qualifications:
- CPA designation or equivalent experience within a professional services environment with a proven track record
- 12+ years in progressive finance or accounting roles, with at least 5 years as a manager
- Experience within the legal industry strongly preferred
- Proficiency in accounting principles and practices, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards (LSO)
- Ability to manage multiple and at times conflicting priorities and deadlines
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work well with partners and management
