Salary: $150,000 -165,000, + bonus

For over 20 years our client has been serving a particular demographic in the retail space with over 140 locations across Canada.

Role Overview
The Director, Finance & Operations will provide day-to-day financial and operational leadership across the business. This role works in close partnership with the President, the Directors of Finance & Accounting and FP&A. This role will ensure alignment, integration, and execution across finance and operations in a retail landscape.

Responsibilities:

  • Translate financial outputs into clear, actionable insights for business leaders
  • Ensure consistency and alignment between actuals, forecasts, and operational plans
  • Own the financial operating rhythm (close, forecast, review cadence)
  • Align team outputs to business priorities without disrupting functional ownership
  • Act as additional point of contact for finance-related execution outside the executive team
  • Partner with operations, merchandising, and supply chain leaders to:
    • Improve store-level profitability and labor efficiency
    • Optimize inventory turns and margin performance
    • Support pricing, promotions, and new initiatives with financial analysis
  • Ensure KPIs are well-defined, understood, and consistently reported
  • Consolidate financial and operational reporting for senior leadership
  • Prepare management-level summaries and recommendations for the President, Finance Directors, Merchandise team and the Chairman
  • Ensure appropriate controls, documentation, and governance without adding unnecessary bureaucracy

Qualifications:

  • CPA designation, near completion or a combination of other education and demonstrated experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in finance and/or operations within a retail or multi-entity / multi-provincial environments
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting, FP&A, and operational finance
  • Knowledge of BI and AI tools, Advanced Excel and ERP system experience (they use in-house system)
  • Proven ability to lead through influence rather than direct control
