OUR CLIENT
An opportunity exists in our client’s Toronto office for a highly motivated Mechanical Project Manager / Lead to join a leading firm across Western Canada. This company have a well-established presence and a strong portfolio of work across a variety of sectors.

THE ROLE
In this role you will be responsible for managing the mechanical engineering on a variety of buildings projects ranging in size and complexity, with a focus on residential, public, mixed use, institutional and commercial buildings.
Responsibilities include:

  • Analyze client design proposals and specifications to determine cost effective solutions.
  • Provide guidance to clients, technical staff and sub-consultants to ensure projects are technically sound and completed successfully.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines internally as well as externally with consultants and architects.
  • Ensure professional quality services in all facets of work.
  • Provide quality and cost control during the design and construction process.
  • Work with the project team to ensure technical accuracy of project deliverables.
  • Manage project activities throughout lifecycle, including the allocation of adequate resources, documentation and other factors necessary for success.
  • Prepare and review specification and concept reports.
  • Maintain project schedules and project cost summaries to track work progress, budge status and manpower resource utilization.
  • Identify and address the need for additional services and fees to clients in a timely fashion.
  • Work with the field review team during the construction phase and ensure ASHRAE compliance and LEED where applicable.
  • Keep apprised of industry and technical trends, codes, and standards
  • Contribute to the Design building HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems.
  • Coordinate and be responsible for mechanical engineering designs, drawings and specifications.
  • Collaborate with Architects and projects teams to ensure design requirements are met and to solve design problems and technical issues
  • Nurture and maintain strong client relationships in and for execution of projects,
  • Support specific proposal, and project efforts.
  • Conduct peer reviews of engineering calculations, drawings and specifications within the mechanical team.
  • Assist in preparing detailed engineering design calculations.
  • Assist junior staff

WHAT’S REQUIRED

  • Registered EIT or Engineer with APEGA
  • 10+ years of experience in Mechanical Engineering, with at least 3+ years of experience working with project management in Mechanical Engineering from within North America
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Knowledge of and experience with high performance and sustainable building practices an asset
  • Excellent knowledge of national and provincial building codes and standards.
  • Working understanding of and familiarity with AutoCAD. Exposure to BIM and Revit will be an asset, so as to be able to review drawings.
  • Good organization, coordination, and project management skills to maintain project schedules and budgets.
  • Good verbal communication and soft skills – able to work effectively with clients, teams and consultants.
  • Able to work in a fast pace environment on multiple projects simultaneously.
