Our client is a well-established construction contractor proudly serving Ontario for over 50 years. With deep roots in Guelph and a strong reputation in infrastructure and asphalt production, they are a growing organization focused on operational excellence and continuous improvement.

The Opportunity

They are seeking a hands-on Senior Cost Accountant with construction or manufacturing industry experience to join their team in Guelph.

This role reports directly to the Controller and plays a critical role in project costing, job profitability analysis, and operational financial support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze project costs (Tender vs. Actual) and ensure accurate job costing

  • Monitor gross margins and cost-to-complete balances

  • Prepare monthly financial reporting including:

    • Gross margin analysis

    • Inventory metrics

    • Material, labour, and overhead variances

  • Support budget-to-actual analysis at the project level

  • Code invoices, manage holdbacks, and oversee project billing

  • Support month-end close (journal entries, reconciliations, AP/AR support)

  • Manage and monitor inventory controls

  • Partner with purchasing and operations on cost estimates

  • Support forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis

Ideal Experience

  • 2–5+ years of cost accounting experience in construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, or heavy industry

  • Strong knowledge of job costing and project accounting

  • Experience with:

    • Holdbacks

    • Progress billing

    • Inventory and production costing

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills

  • Experience with Maestro or Vista Viewpoint is an asset

  • CPA designation (or in progress) is an asset

  • Strong English communication skills
