Senior Mechanical Engineer (Building Systems) – Toronto (On-Site)
We are partnering with a well-established multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy to hire a Senior Mechanical Engineer for their growing GTA team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a design-focused, client-facing environment and is looking to take ownership of projects while mentoring junior staff.
The Role
You will play a key role in delivering mechanical building systems design across a range of complex projects, while also supporting team development and client coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design for building projects from concept through to completion
- Perform HVAC and plumbing/piping system design, including equipment sizing and selection
- Produce and review detailed engineering calculations and drawings
- Work extensively in Revit MEP for design and coordination
- Manage projects, timelines, and deliverables in a consulting environment
- Collaborate with internal teams, external consultants, and clients
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior and intermediate engineers
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in mechanical building systems design
- Strong background in HVAC and plumbing/piping systems (design-focused)
- Proven experience working within a building engineering consultancy
- Advanced proficiency in Revit MEP (mandatory)
- Solid understanding of mechanical calculations, codes, and standards
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects end-to-end
- Strong communication skills with client-facing experience
Project Experience (Required)
- High-density residential (multi-unit) developments
- Healthcare and/or institutional projects
- Commercial or public-use facilities (e.g., recreational, cultural)
(Note: Industrial/warehouse experience is not aligned with this role)
